Vinca Attacked By Caterpillars

Vinca or Periwinkle is one of the most common plants you can find in local nurseries. The plants are grown for its glossy and green foliage as well as its variety color of flowers.

We do not have many vinca now because most of them bought earlier were attacked by caterpillars. A pot of vinca can be gone in one night, that’s how ferociously hungry these caterpillars can be.

This one(below) was the only survivor although we read propagation is rather easy. Well, probably vinca wasn’t my top favorite, so, I didn’t really bother. But last week, we almost lost this too.

Yes, the caterpillars were back, almost with a vengeance....LOL




Luckily, we were quick to spot them this time.



We killed those that we can see with our physical eyes but to be safe, nothing beats prescribing some garden voodoo aka pest control...:)

Confi: kekeke...oh, poor you...

At the end, Bubbly din get to touch the ball at all. But the ball makes a huge difference. Without the ball, they end up like this...

Do They Really Bring In The Money?

Money plant (scientific name: Epipremnum aurem) is the most common plant found in homes because it is the easiest to plant. It’s so hardy – you can literally leave it alone and the fella will still survive. They can be propagated easily, by stem or leaf cuttings.

It was said money plant is bringer of fortune. The myth has it that if you keep money plant at home and can keep it in bloom, good fortune will be flowing continuously into the household. Oh, I want to believe that! Hahaa…

Anyway, this is what I did to one of my money plants. I let it circle a table lamp. Ok, I'm putting this up here for my future consumption. Believe me, this blog is probably all about that...:)

Japanese Koi

We do not have a Japanese garden. But we have a garden pond with Japanese koi. Koi fish are a form of carp fish originally from Japan. They are very similar to goldfish though. At first, we had nineteen but as time goes by, we noticed they are growing in size rapidly. Not only that, they are big eaters as well. Err…are we spending too much on fish food? So, with a bit of hesitation, we decided to give away 8 of them. Lucky neighbors...:)

We are not koi experts. Besides a few kohakus and an asagi, the rest are not of premium breeds. To a non-koi expert, it doesn’t matter. All of them are equally unique and beautiful. But as times goes by, we all tend to have our favorites.

As they swim all the time, they give the pond a “sense of life”. It’s a great therapy for the eyes, that’s for sure….:D

Japanese Roses

We have this flower bed, measuring 4 x 2.5 feet which we had explored planting with all sorts of flowers in the past 2.5 years. Zinnias, vincas, lantanas, melapodiums, to name a few...but with not much of success. This was an old picture, took about 1.5 years ago when we had zinnias.

At first, they were blooming so well but soon they became a wild bush. They usually do that when they are shouting for attention. Obviously, we did not shower enough of that...:)

So, about 6 weeks ago, I said, "let's try something else again". In a way, this is the part I like most, exploring new flowers.

So, taa-tah...japanese roses.



I hope they'll last for a while this time, though I don't mind trying out other species...:)

Favorite Flowers

A garden must have flowers. I insist. So far, we've been very fortunate in having the following:

a) Torenias

b) Petunias

c) Mini roses


e) Impatiens


d) Honestly, I've no idea what this is called. But can't blame me because I did not plant it. It popped up out of no where. The delight I had when I discovered these lovely blooms one morning. Well, someone told me it's related to Japanese roses. I need to verify...

A Little Fight Makes The World Go Round

Took these pictures 2 weeks ago actually. It has been awhile since we got Confi and Bubbly playing "wrestling".

Due to Bubbly eye's incident not long ago, we tried our best to separate them as much as possible.

But we think it's time to have some fun again...But, under watchful eyes.

So, let the war starts..

Less than five minutes of wrestling, we got worried. Joshua has to quickly budge in and act as the mediator.
